Breastfeeding Problems and Solutions
Are you having breastfeeding problems? This page is dedicated to talking about these problems and sharing solutions.
I read on a blog, recently, about a mother who was having breastfeeding problems. She shared openly and candidly about her problem and shared some solutions she had found and how she implemented them. I was immediately drawn to her plight because I have been there too. Almost all breastfeeding mothers come up against at least one thing going wrong with their feedings. Just because breast is best doesn't make it the easiest.
Problem #1 Latching
I've always had latch problems. My first baby wouldn't latch properly and ended up falling asleep at the breast which didn't help me solve her problem. After years of people telling me to wake her up by any means necessary, one Mama told me of the common sense solution to just adjust my baby's mouth after the initial latch. The difference was I wouldn't be taking baby off and trying again, I'd just be fixing what was wrong WHILE breastfeeding continued. It was a revolutionary thought and as I've stated before, saved our breastfeeding experience.
Problem #2 Candida/Thrush
Another problem I've encountered is candida or thrush. This problem is pesky and stubborn. It will not let go seemingly without a fight. I've read about radical diet changes, but didn't have the willpower to change my diet to no sugars at all (which is what the bacteria, thrush, feeds upon).
I kept searching and found Gentian Violet, which is a liquid remedy that paints everything it touches purple (even more severely than blueberry residue). That did seem to take away some of the lightening strike pains shooting through my breast, but it wasn't all gone.
Next came grapefruit seed extract, which seemed too out of reach for me to obtain at the time.
Lastly, I stumbled upon probiotics or good bacteria. I've since earned that the most aggressive treatment for candida is for the good bacteria to fight the bad bacteria and wipe it out altogether. This has seemed to work the best as the itching went away just like the shooting pains had.
I know there are many more problems that breastfeeding mothers find themselves in. In the form below, write down the problems you have had to overcome and what you did that helped you continue breastfeeding problem-free.
