I see a conscious parent as being one who takes full responsibility for their role as parent without seeing that role as a burden or irritation. Becoming a conscious parent takes time, resources and a determined conviction.. A parent may have to change their entire way of thinking in order to embrace more conscious methods of parenting like giving up harsh discipline in favor of a more gentle approach or choosing to have a natural birth when most women are opting for epidurals and scheduled c-sections. The guiding principle is, if you know better, you do better. For instance, if you know you don't need to have major surgery just to birth a baby would you ever let someone try to talk you into it?
Some parents start out parenting consciously because that’s how they were raised as children. They’ve seen excellent examples of how to nurture their child/ren. They don't think twice about perceived sacrifices. These parents forge ahead ad do whatever it takes to form deep, lasting bonds with their children.
Other parents, like me, only discover a more conscious parenting approach after years of seeing how other methods just don’t cut it. These parents have little to no experience with the methods that help change your lifestyle. They don’t start off parenting having read all the books from experts in the field. They had to learn the hard way - by hitting their head and learning what DOESN’T work.

For parents like me, there is hope and help. There are many good books available and groups that meet together in various areas for fellowship and encouragement. |

I just listened in to Barbara Harper, founder of Waterbirth International, speak on water birth and was blown away by all the information she presented! I go into more detail about that interview with Matt here.
For those of you who missed the fist few speakers you can read a little about them down below. After reading you can click through to their interview page with the audio interview for you to listen in. Pay close attention to the dates though! The free audio recordings are only for a limited time.
