Day 11

by Chante
(IN)

I think I'll try something new with my oldest son. He seems to like lists and checking things off when they're done. I watched him go through his sentences for all the spelling words he has. He makes sure he puts check marks next to the words he's already written sentences for and delights to see every word checked off. It seems he'd get upset if they all weren't checked off.

In light of this, I'm going to let him do more independent work. Usually I try to have my two oldest doing the same thing, but my oldest son has proven that he's a bit different than my oldest daughter. He's more of an out-the-box thinker. I can give him the principle concept of what we're learning and he'll run and apply it to everything else he's already learned and end up ahead of where I had planned we'd be. I think if I let him be more independent he'd do well with it.

I'm going to try it out tomorrow by giving him a list of things I want him to accomplish and see how he does. I'll give him a week and make any changes. He says he'd like that approach, so he's ready for it. We'll know in a little while if it's all in his head or if he can actually be that responsible.
