Day 18 - Here He Comes To Save The Day!!

I've been working pretty hard on the site. Trying to get used to being a WAHSM (work-at-home-schooling Mom).
Lately we've been staying in to finish our work (both the children and mine). We do have P.E. scheduled, but it wasn't getting done the past few days. Fun was being forsaken for productivity!
Well, you know the phrase all work and no play...
So, I decided to forego productivity (cringing while I did it) and went out.
If you have a large family you know how hard it is to get everything organized to go out. ESPECIALLY when it's coat and hat season.
We finally were ready and went out to have fun. I was still feeling guilty about skipping "school" though. I keep hearing home schooling should be fun, free and spontaneous, but I'm a stickler for the schedule. I just don't feel productive if we haven't done all we're supposed to do (as written forth in our schedule). Yep, you guessed it. I'm a perfectionist at heart.
While lamenting, I said a quick prayer for help for my messed up children who were going to play outside most of the day instead of more traditional school inside....
Then a wonderful thing happened!
My 2 yo. started pedaling his tricycle!
What? You're not impressed? Maybe you need to hear the history to understand.
When my oldest son was 2yo., he used to avoid pedaling his tricycle (even though that was faster) by alternating his feet pushing the tricycle forward on the ground. I encouraged him ALL YEAR to try the pedals. Nothing doing. Finally, after two years, he gave it a try and didn't look back.
Fast forward to my youngest son who was doing THE EXACT SAME THING all this year. I was just about to resign myself to wait a whole 'nother year for his transformation, when I started talking about it with my oldest son. My 2yo. was in earshot and heard everything. After the talk, we both gave suggestions of pedaling to the 2yo. while he scooted back and forth, but to no avail.
A little while later my oldest daughter excitedly shared with me that my 2yo. was pedaling the tricycle! I didn't have to wait a whole year afterall! It seems my little man just up ad decided he was going to pedal. =)
Guess how I was feeling now? Nothing like a shot of success to brighten the mood.
As I celebrated my 2yo.'s success, I was reminded of how important play is to children.
That little act, in my mind, validated our entire time away from the books.
After that, beautiful moments of bonding kept occurring and I decided to stay out for as long as possible.
That is what home schooling is all about. Living life with your children and pouring yourself into them.
Does a Mama's heart good.
By the way, did you guess who I was praying to? Jesus. He's my hero!
