Disadvantage of Homeschooling? Public Perceptions!!

The biggest problem we had with homeschooling our daughter was others perceptions about what we were doing. My public and private school teacher friends constantly questioned if she would be able to go to college and if she was getting a good education since I did not graduate from college.

I never could get through to them that my daughter always made straight A's, because we did not move on from a subject until she knew it. She didn't just study for a test, pass the test and then forget it. She KNEW the material. :-)

If you purchase good curriculum and allow lessons in real life to connect with what they are learning, your kids will go above and beyond what most kids get in a classroom full of kids without individual attention.

The other question everyone had was if she would be able to get along in the "real" world. LOL There is absolutely NO reason a child should be UN-socialized just because they learn at home. As long as the parent allows the child to get involved in outside activities, the child will be well rounded socially.

I don't suggest anyone homeschool their child or children unless they feel committed to not just schooling at home, but allowing outside activities for their children to engage in.
