The Diaper Free Baby

The Diaper-Free Baby: The Natural Toilet Training Alternative

I'm reading this book FINALLY for the first time. This book is a classic and I'm half ashamed that I haven't read it yet.

When I was first making my decision to practice EC, I'd heard about this book and the other two in iconic EC history (Diaper Free: The Gentle Wisdom of Natural Infant Hygiene and Infant Potty Training: A Gentle and Primeval Method Adapted to Modern Living). It seemed I never could get my hands on it so I decided to not let that stop me.

Now that I'm EC'ing regularly and reading the book I see why it was so highly regarded. There are many interesting tidbits to mull over as you transition from one school of thought to another. You have to avoid having the perfectionist mentality of it working every time perfectly. It won't. What matters is you are learning your child's behaviors and they are learning the behavior of how to eliminate properly.

Reading about the proper rationale behind EC has helped me to be able to explain what it is to others. I also feel I now have the means to gently lead skeptics down the path of correct EC philosophy. I'm amazed at some of the myths that abound about EC (for instance, my house will have messes everywhere).
